‘Paved
With Good Intentions: People, Nature,
and the Land Along I-10’
This
exhibit will tell the story of how people have used and changed
the land.
‘Paved
With Good Intentions’ will combine oral, visual, and written
records with GIS technology to inquire into audience perceptions
concerning the effect of freeways and development on our relations
with each other and our stewardship of the land.
‘Living
on the Dime: A View of the World From Along I-10’
An oral,
pictorial, and documentary history element that will develop the
stories and themes in section 2 of this proposal.
Although
many interviews will be conducted by IMH staff and consultants,
a basic part of the oral history project will be to train individuals
in each target community to interview members of their own community.
’Story
Share Days’
include interviewing, gathering photos and documents, and a possible
storytelling series at select sites.
Some
interviews will be collected at Story Share Days, which will be
held at several partner sites during the initial research period.
‘In
Front of History’
will involve activists, artists, and community elders from representative
local ethnic groups as storytellers and panelists for a conversation
with the audience that will accompany a documentary film or multimedia
presentation.
As much
as possible the panels or guest speakers will include people who
actually participated in the events or stories depicted.
‘KidSpeak’
is a chance for children to express their thoughts on program topics
and presentations through writing, art, or other creative media.
Kidspeak displays will be part of some LOTD exhibits.
Stage
Production*‘10 Tales’
The Performance
Loft, a community theater group in Redlands will develop a stage
play drawn from personal stories as told by project participants.
The production
will be staged free for local schools, community/performing arts
organizations, and the general public.
