Rena began playing the violin when she was eight years old. She joined her first band at the age of fifteen. Her first experience with electric violin began at the age of sixteen when she played as a front performer singing and playing violin with an incredible band comprised of two drummers, tape loops, synths, bass and guitar backing her up. By the age of eighteen, she was living in Austin , TX . After, many years
of performing in Austin , TX . with many local bands including, Once settled in the Bay Area, Rena quickly began to peruse new musical endeavors. Following a great lineup of stellar bands, Rena stepped up and begun her own solo project, which has been turning heads since her first debut performance in early 2004. In a few short months Rena is now opening up for world renowned DJ's and producers like Tipper, Freq Nasty, Adam Freeland, Murcof, Shakatura, Vir Unison & James Johnson and more. Her music is a freshly unique style breathing life back into electronic music.
Her styles range from drum & bass, downtempo, IDM, psy-chill, dub, and none of the above all the while blending a warm tone of violin, cello, live tablas and percussion into the mix. |
Rena is currently working on her second solo album and is also working as a studio musician with artists all over the West Coast. As a studio musician, Rena has worked with some of the greats including Rye Cooder, Alan White (John Lennon), Peter Buck (REM), Bob Wiseman, Ben Mize (Counting Crows), Brad Houser (Critter's Buggin' and Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians) and more. An extremely versatile musician, Rena has performed in settings ranging from acoustic introspection to booty shakin’ funk to pop to traditional Eastern music to thumping electronic dance floor beats. Her instrumentation includes violin, cello, vocals and electronics. She’s performed live and collaborated with such acts as Lumin, Akasha, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Gavin Hardkiss, Mark Deutsch, Eenor, Artemis & RTFM, Darin Shaffer, Hamsa Lila, Kraddy, Dahamaal, Blane Lyon and more. Rena has also worked closely with dance troupes, film and theater and is now a full time sound engineer and professional musician living in San Francisco. |
