DVD Authoring Workspace

The Outline Tab
The Outline Tab (or Outline View) shows your DVD at a glance. You will be able to see how all the elements of your project fit together in the individual folders.

This is a key component to authoring DVDs because this is where you bring all your components together.

Everything you import into DVD Studio Pro fits into one of the following categories: Tracks, Menus, Slideshows, Scripts and Languages. These are represented as folders.

The Assets Tab
Once you import your Assets into your Project, they will appear here. This is a holding bin for everything you import.

The Track Editor
The track editor looks very much like the timeline-based editor in Final Cut Pro. You can organize various streams of audio and video into clips via the track editor. It also allows you to make quick edits to the length and position of clips in the timeline. Each new project is created with a single new track ready for video to be placed into it.

The Inspector

The Inspector allows you to control each asset’s features and the relationships between your assets. For example, this is the dialogue box that you use to button actions to video streams. It’s also where you program how the buttons on your remote control react.

It constantly updates to display the currently selected tab’s properties. Remember to always set the Disc Properties first. Then, you will also set Menu and Track Properties.

The Palette
The Palette provides a shortcut to media files on your hard disks, allowing you to add folders that you access often to the palette. This saves you from having to look for files via the finder or having to use the Import button to bring in files. You just drag and drop from the Palette.

The Viewer
The Viewer allows you to preview movies from the track editor. You have very simple controls that let you stop and start the movie.

The Menu Editor
The Menu Editor, which is accessible by clicking the menu tab, is where you can create and edit your menus. Here you'll set the menu background, add buttons, set button hotspots, link buttons to other assets and program the DVD's remote control buttons.
