DVD Workflow

1. Define project, audience, workflow, assets and budget
Tools: Word to create flowchart, Excel to create bit budget
a. How does your project flow from menu to menu?

b. What is the look and feel?
c. What is the content?
d. What is your chosen format?
e. How much content can you fit on that chosen format?

2. Gather assets, including video, audio, graphics
Tools: Final Cut Pro, Premiere, DV camera

4. Design menus
Tools: PhotoShop, Final Cut Pro, Premiere or AfterEffects
a. Use rollovers from PhotoShop or highlights in DVD Studio Pro?
b. Create motion menus or still menus?


3. Encode
video and audio to MPEG-2 streams.
Tools: QuickTime Pro, Media Cleaner, Adobe has an encoding tool, too

a. Video encoding:
1. Are you going to use variable bit rate or constant bit rate?
b. Audio encoding:
1. Are you going to use MP2, PCM or AC3?

5. Author in DVD Authoring program
Tools: DVD Studio Pro or Adobe Encore
a. Import assets: menus, video and audio
b. Link assets together
c. Preview the project

6. Build and burn a pre-master disc
Tools: DVD Studio Pro, Roxio Toast

7. Test disc and remaster
a.
Play DVD on player and computer

8. Replicate and package
a.
3rd party replication house
