In-class Assignment #4

The goal is to understand how a layered Photoshop menu works within DVDSP. After this assignment, you should understand how to create a menu for DVDSP using layered Photoshop documents. You should also understand how to create selected and activated states on the menu with Photoshop documents. Finally, you should understand how to do simple highlights and overlays for menus in DVDSP.If you are ready to design a menu for your project, go ahead and work on that instead.

1. Copy the 2.21.ass folder from the network to the user folder>IDST 144 on your hard drive. If there isn't an 144 folder on your hard drive, create one for this class. Open up the mainmenufin.psd.

2. Look over this file. You will have to flatten the styles into one layer to see them in DVDSP.

3. Examine how the file has been created, then flatten the layers into selected and activated states.

4. Once you are done with the above steps, import the menu into DVDSP.

5. Create a layered menu and program the background.

6. Create some hotspots and program the selected and activated states.

7. Test it out to make sure you've done it properly.

8. Put your project with the menu back on the network in a folder with your name on it in the layered Photoshop menus assignment folder.
