IDST 130 -- Lesson 4     Beth Cataldo, September 8, 2004

Flowchart Cheat Sheet:

1. Click on the Drawing tool on the MS menu bar or go under View>Toolbars>Drawing to get the Drawing Toolbar to come up. It will show up at the left side of your MS-Word screen.

2. Here you'll find all the tools you need to build boxes and arrows so that you can put together your flowchart.

a. Click on Autoshapes icon and choose Flowchart (or Basic Shapes) to create your boxes.
b. Once you've created your boxes, use the Text Box Tool to create a text box that you can write into. You should create this text box right on top of the flowchart box that you created.

c. If you're not sure how long your text is going to be, you may want to create the text boxes first and then draw your flowchart boxes around them.

3. Use the Line Tool in the drawing toolbar to create straight lines. You can format lines with arrow endpoints by using the Draw Tool after you have highlighted a line.

4. The Select Object Tool allows you to edit existing text, boxes and arrows. Just click on the arrow and then select the item to edit.
